Silva pens emotional message to hospital staff after the release of his son

- Manchester City star David Silva was full of excitement on Tuesday, May 15, after his son was discharged from the hospital five months after his birth

- Little Mateo was born before time and he has kept in the intensive care unit of the hospital until his release yesterday

- And the former Valencia playmaker has thanked everyone who stood by him during his trying period

Manchester City superstar David Silva is extremely thankful to the hospital staff after his prematurely-born son was released on Tuesday, May 15.

Mateo was born in December, a few months before his due date – reasons he was kept at the hospital until yesterday when he was discharged.

Meanwhile, the Spain international has described the period as the ‘long five months’, as he had to shuttle between the team and the hospital to be there for his family.

Silva said on his official twitter handle after he was told he could take his son home: “We’re finally going home!".

"We're finally going home!" wrote Silva alongside a series of pictures of hospital staff who cared for his son.

"We will be eternally grateful for the amazing paediatric team and ICU units of the Hospital Casa de Salud for their professionalism and human treatment that they have shown us these 5 long months. Just thank you!" he added.

Earlier this year, the Spaniard revealed that his son was 'fighting day by day' – reasons the Spanish midfielder missed four of City's five Christmas fixtures.

I want to thank all of you for the love and good wishes received in the last few weeks, special thanks to my team-mates, the manager and all at the club for understanding my situation," said Silva in a Twitter post explaining his absence.

Also I want to share with you the birth of my son Mateo, who was born extremely preterm and is fighting day by day with the help of the medical team."

The 32-year-old joined the Citizens from Valencia in 2010 and has won three Premier League titles. He is also part of the team that racked-up 100 points in a record-breaking season.

He has scored 48 goals in 249 appearances for the Etihad Stadium outfit with three League cups, one FA Cup title and a Community Shield.

NAIJ.com previously reported that the Spain international revealed that his son was born prematurely.

And he was thankful to his coach and teammates for their support after missing a number of City's matches on their way to winning the league title.
