Read the statement below:

We are increasing security deployments in the North Central and North West, where there have been violent attacks on communities by bandits and criminals. In addition we are focusing on the humanitarian challenges, all of the displaced people who are now living in camps.

We will ensure we secure their communities, and we will help them to return home to rebuild their lives and livelihoods, and get the children back to school. I have approved the sum of 10 Billion Naira for the rebuilding of affected communities, and tasked the Vice President to oversee the disbursement of the funds, to ensure that our goal of rehabilitation and reconstruction is achieved.

We are also engaging with state governments and community leaders, to build trust and understanding and ensure that all grievances are identified and addressed.

I thank the government and people of Benue and other affected States for their understanding and continued support, as we work together to restore peace and security to all troubled areas.

It will be recalled that vice president, Yemi Osinbajo, paid a visit to Benue state to assess the situation of the state, particularly the displacement of the people. The vice president landed in the state on Tuesday, May 15.
