Goalkeeper Buffon tenders apology to referee Michael Oliver

- Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has apologized to referee Michael Oliver

- He insulted the referee in his side's Champions League exit against Real Madrid

- Buffon was livid with the decision of the referee to have given Real a penalty

Veteran Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has tendered an apology to referee Michael Oliver for his unsportsmanlike behavior during Juventus' exit in the 2017/18 Champions League.

Juventus overcame a 3-0 defeat they suffered in the first leg of their semi final clash against Real Madrid, but the referee awarded a penalty to Real Madrid at the death.

Buffon then angrily launched a serious verbal attack against referee Michael Oliver because of the penalty he gave Real Madrid.

The 40-year-old was red carded for his behavior and Portugal international Ronaldo converted the penalty that sent Real Madrid to the final of the Champions League.

"It is obvious that I have transgressed and I am sorry for what I have done.

"But it was a very special situation. I couldn't do anything else but say those things and I am sorry to have offended the referee,'' Buffon was quoted to have said by Sky sports.

Meanwhile, UEFA are expected to deal with Gianluigi Buffon's case on May 31.
