Search an officer first before he searches you - Police tells Nigerians

The Nigeria Police Force has enlightened Nigerians on what to do whenever they are accosted by police officers.

The police through its official Twitter handle urged Nigerians to always request to search officers who want to search their houses or cars. The police noted that the process is the right procedure before a search operation can be carried out by its personnel.

However, the police advice which has gained much traction did not go well with Nigerians.

Some Nigerians warned fellow citizens not to take the advice.

A Twitter user, @tickin_clocks rhetorically said: "Imagine me searching SARS".

Another user described the advise as one thousand ways to die in Nigeria.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had reported that the Nigeria police had reacted to the viral video of the inspector general of police, Ibrahim Idris, making a speech in Kano.

The police reacting to the question by a Twitter user on the authenticity of the video said it was doctored.

Adekola Adewale had asked: "I saw a video yesterday on social media about the Inspector General of Police not able to read his own speech. Some of us suspect it is a doctored video, can you clarify that please? Thank you.”

The police replied: "Thank you for your question. Yes it was doctored."
