NDLEA seizes 4000kgs of tramadol at Lagos airport

- Many cartons of tramadol estimated at about 4000 kilogrammes have been intercepted by the Murtala Muhammed Airport command of the NDLEA

- NDLEA commander at the Lagos Airport, Garba Ahmadu said the interception was made through intelligence information received from its foreign counterparts

- He maintained that the tramadol consists of “capsules and tablets of 225 and 125 milligrams respectively far above the 50-100 milligrams of dosage approved by the government

National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) impounded about 4000 kilogrammes of tramadol that was recently banned by the federal government at the Muritala Muhammed Airport Lagos.

NDLEA commander at the Lagos Airport, Garba Ahmadu, who made this known on Thursday, May 17, said the interception was made through intelligence information received by the agency.

Ahmadu said the banned drug was imported into the country through Etihad cargo and intercepted at the cargo shed of the Skyway Aviation Handling Company, SAHCOL, adding that for about one month, no cargo agent showed up to claim the consignments, prompting the agency to take possession of the items.

He maintained that the tramadol consists of “capsules and tablets of 225 and 125 milligrams respectively far above the 50-100 milligrams of dosage approved by the government.”

Ahmadu noted that the interception goes to show that tramadol consumption “is becoming a serious problem in the country.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that the NDLEA arrested one Salisu Mahmuda in Jigawa transporting firearms heading to Benue state.

Oko Micheal who is the deputy commander of the NDLEA confirmed this on Tuesday, February 6. He said they were on normal operation around Jahun – Gujungu Road where the suspect was arrested.
