Barely 24 hours after Emeka Etiaba (SAN), a defence lawyer to former national publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Olisa Metuh, announced his withdrawal the lawyer re-appeared in the case Tuesday morning, May 22, The Punch reports.
NAIJ.com gathered that Etiaba had withdrawn from the case Monday, May 21, after the judge insisted that the trial must continue after Metuh’s fall in court.
Metuh, who during the Monday’s proceedings collapsed is absent from the ongoing court session as Etiaba made the announcement that he is the lawyer to the ex-spokesperson.
Justice Okon Abang, had overruled Etiaba’s application to withdraw from the case, saying it was an attempt to delay the case.
Etiaba insisting that he had withdrawn from the case, refused to answer further questions asked by the judge even after the ruling dismissing his application for withdrawal from the case.
The judge described Etiaba’s attitude as rude and unethical.
However, Abang adjourned the case till Tuesday after the court’s medical official said Metuh needed to see his doctor.

Metuh is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegation that he fraudulently received a sum of N400 million in 2014 from the office of the National Security Adviser.
Punch reports that the incident occurred about 9.01am in the courtroom and the trial judge, Justice Okon Abang had to stand down the matter to enable medical officials attend to the defendant.
