It was serious drama at the Gombe state House of Assembly on Thursday, May 24, as a lawmaker reportedly got hold of the mace and seized it during a session. He fled the chamber with what has become known as the symbol of authority.
Premium Times reports that the incident occurred during an attempt by some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the House to impeach the minority leader, Mohammed Haruna, who is a member of the party.
According to the report, the House is dominated by members of the Peoples Democratic Party.
The report added that Haruna’s offence may have been that on May 5, he called a press conference to condemn the conduct of APC ward congresses in the state.
