Buhari to receive 2018 budget on Friday, May 25 - Saraki

- Senate president Bukola Saraki has disclosed that President Buhari will receive the 2018 budget on Friday, May 25

- He said the process had previously been delayed because the two chambers of the National Assembly had passed different figures last week

- Saraki also expressed hope that the existing cordial relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government would be enhanced

President Muhammadu Buhari will on Friday, May 25, receive the 2018 budget, a week after its passage by the National Assembly, Senate president Bukola Saraki disclosed.

Saraki made this known to State House correspondents after the breaking of (Ramadan) fast with Buhari at the President Villa, Abuja on Thursday, May 24, NAN reports.

NAIJ.com gathers that Saraki explained that the delay in transmission of the budget to the president was informed by the fact that the two chambers of the National Assembly had passed different figures last week.

He, however, confirmed that the two chambers had harmonised the figures and concluded the exercise on Wednesday, May 23.

He said: “I think that should have been done, we had to harmonise. It’s just a slight difference, it has been passed yesterday (Wednesday).

“It was in the rules and proceedings of today. So, I am sure by tomorrow, we will transmit it to the Presidency.’’

Saraki thanked the president for inviting them for the breaking of fast and expressed the hope that the event would further enhance the existing cordial relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government.

NAIJ.com previously reported that following the consideration and adoption of the report by the joint National Assembly Committee on Appropriation, the Senate on Wednesday, May 16, finally passed the 2018 Appropriation Bill.

The upper legislative chamber increased the proposal of N8.612 trillion presented by President Muhammadu Buhari in December, 2017 to N9.120trn.

The 2018 budget has been on the front burner in recent times as many people have blamed the National Assembly for purposely delaying the budget as using it as a tool against the executive.

However, the National Assembly had maintained that the delays were due to the ministries, departments and agencies of government (MDAs) who have failed to submit their details within the stipulated time.
