Pope Francis on Thursday, May 24, declared that Islam does not have anything to do with terrorism adding that any idea which equates the religion to terrorism is 'foolish.'
Francis made this known in an interview with an Italian local newspaper when the body of Pope John XXIII returned to his northern Italian home city.
According to him, “It might be coming out of many people’s mouths, but this equation is a lie and it is foolish.
“The most important role (of religions) is that of promoting a culture of encounter, together in the promotion of true education for responsible behaviour that takes care of creation.”
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had reported that Pope Francis was seriously considering shutting down a total of 163 parishes of the Catholic Diocese of Ahiara in Imo state following the alleged stubborn refusal of of some priests to accept the appointment of Peter Okpalaeke as bishop.
Okpaleke was appointed four years ago to replace late Bishop Victor Chikwe but had been rejected by Reverend Fathers of Mbaise extraction and the Laity.
Those who oppose his appointment demanded for a bishop from Mbaise in Imo state instead of one from another state of the country.
The report said since then, the Ahiara Cathedral and the Bishop’s Court have remained under lock and key and nobody had administered the Holy Communion.
