Liverpool striker Mohammed Salah has enjoyed a record-breaking season at Anfield but says the Champions League final is not all about him winning Ballon d'Or winner
The 25-year-old admits that he “feels great” to have been compared to Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona's Lionel Messi this season.
The Egyptian has enjoyed a staggering debut season at the Merseyside which will come to a conclusion when they contest for the Champions League title against Real Madrid.
Salah has set a record in terms of goals in a Premier League season, netting 32 in 36 appearances, and it is a situation he says he thrives upon.
“I feel great about the numbers,” he told BT Sport. “Everyone is talking about Ronaldo and Messi because they’ve been at that level of 15/13 years so I’m proud to see myself compared to them.”
The former Chelsea star has stated that the clash in Kiev is little more than a duel between himself and Ronaldo as players are both firmly in contention to win the Ballon d’Or.
“It’s the final game, it’s not about Salah or Ronaldo, it’s about the clubs,” he pointed out.
“I want to make everyone proud, I want to make everyone in the city happy, in Egypt, over the world. I just need to think about the game, nothing else, just do my job.”
On the other hand, Ronaldo, argued that he is “completely different” to Salah and should, therefore, not be compared to him.
The Red Egyptian has scored 44 goals in all competitions this season, including 10 Champions League strikes, and in 51 games he made 16 assists.
His perfomances this season earned him the PFA Players’ Player of the Year and the FWA Footballer of the Year awards.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had earlier reported Salah's boots were put on display in the British Museum due to the iconic status the he holds across the Arab world.
