28 workers trapped, 100 others rescued in Bayelsa oil company fire

- Some workers are reportedly trapped in a fire incident in Koluama 1 community Bayelsa state

- The fire started at about 5 am on Saturday and blew the oil platform

- 100 others have also been rescued from the incident which razed some buildings in the area

Twenty-eight people have been reportedly trapped in a fire incident that occurred in ConOil platform in Bayelsa state.

Leadership reports that the fire outbreak happened in Koluama 1 community of southern Ijaw on Saturday, May 26, after the platform was engulfed

It was also gathered that not less than 100 workers were rescued as at Sunday, May 27.

Confirming the incident, the Joint Military Task Force in the Niger Delta , codenamed Operation Delta Safe said the fire started at about 5am on Saturday and blew the oil platform.

The force also said the residential area for workers were razed down by the fire outbreak while some of the rescued workers have been flown to Port Harcourt for medical attention.

Also, the residents of the area were assisting the fire fighters who were flown into the community to put out the fire and rescue individuals trapped in the facility

One of the residents said though the oilfield is operated by ConOil, the rig is owned by Depthwize Nigeria, an oil services firm working at the oil block operated by Conoil Nigeria Limited.

Meanwhile, spokesperson for the OPDS, Major Abdullahi Ibrahim, said that all personnel on board the rig were successfully evacuated.

Ibrahim also added that the fire was already under control due to the efforts of firefighters and no life was lost.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that a fire outbreak at the National Assembly had forced some senators to evacuate the complex.

The fire which started at the Senate wing of the National Assembly Complex occurred at about 11 am on February 15.

The fire outbreak which began at the maintenance unit of the Senate sent smoke through the air conditioning system to the chamber.
