Mahmud Shinkafi, a former governor of Zamfara state has been arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for allegedly receiving cash from former minister of petroleum, Diezani Madueke.
Premium Times reports that the former governor was arraigned alongside three other persons for receiving N450 million from the former minister.
They were arraigned before Justice Fatima Murtala of the Federal High Court sitting in Zamfara on a five-count charge of conspiracy and money laundering.
Others are the former minister of state, finance, Bashir Yuguda, Aminu Nahuche, and Ibrahim Malaha.
It was reported that the money was part of the $115 million allegedly distributed by Madueke to influence the outcome of the 2015 elections.
One of the charges read: “You Ambassador Bashir Yuguda, Aminu Ahmed Nahuche and Ibrahim Malaha on or about 27th, March 2018, at Gusau, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court conspired among yourselves to receive cash payment of the sum of N450, 000,000 (Four Hundred and Fifty Million Naira Only) from Odia Akpotune without transacting through a financial institution and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 18(a) of the Money Laundering Prohibition Act and punishable under 16(2)(b) of the same Act.”
All the defendants pleaded not-guilty while their counsel, J. C Shaka, asked for bail.
The prosecuting counsel, Johnson Ojogbane, said counter affidavit has been filed urging that they should be denied bail.
The judge however set bail an N5 million and asked that they be remanded in prison till they perfect the bail conditions.
The case has been adjourned to June 27 and 28 for the commencement of trial.
It will be recalled that The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is set to arraign Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu for alleged fraud.

Iyamu was the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Edo state, an election he later lost to Godwin Obaseki of the All Progressives Congress.
Also to be arraigned is Chief Dan Orbih, the PDP chairman in Edo state. They will be arraigned on Thursday, May 24, in Benin city.
