Nigerian man becomes a finalist on the prestigious 2018 Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation

Young innovative Nigerians are becoming aware of ways to make the country better. These genius Nigerians take it upon themselves to make use of their knowledge and solve problems in Nigeria.

A Nigerian man identified as Ifediora Ugochukwu has made Nigeria proud after he became a finalist on the prestigious 2018 Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation. Ugchukwu is the founder of iMeter.

The genius man became a finalist on the Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation for the development of iMeter a smart meter that measures energy.

Other finalists, include people from Ghana, Uganda and Zimbabwe. Some of the inventions that made it, include a device that detects malaria without drawing blood, a cheap and sustainable recycling method to recover precious metals and a textbook-sized science lab for kids.

According to Africa Prize judge, Rebecca Enonchong, the people who became finalist made efforts to improve their country.

Enonchong said: “All four of our finalists have found novel ways to address critical challenges in their home countries. In fact, problems that are faced all over the world. We’re proud to be part of the development of world-class African technologies and to support emerging African entrepreneurs.”

iMeter is a company that produces smart meters a device that measures energy usage. It can be connected to cell phones or computers that have the AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure) software.
