Buffon set to pen a 2-year deal with PSG

Gianluigi Buffon looks set to reject retirement and give himself one last chance at winning the Champions League by moving to Paris Saint-Germain.

The 40-year-old's contract with the Old Lady is coming to an end and the club had already signed someone to replace him.

Buffon quit the national team after Italy's failure to qualify for the World Cup and he is set for retirement in the summer looked certain.

But the former Parma goalie decided he would not be hanging up his gloves but would be leaving the Allianz Stadium.

According to Italian media outlet Corrie dello Sport, Buffon is set to sign a two year deal with Ligue 1 champions PSG worth €8m per year with the deal to be announced soon.

Despite his age, PSG have long needed more quality in between the sticks with both Kevin Trapp and Alphonse Areola not living up to the standard the club.

The French champions have appointed Thomas Tuchel as their manager as replacement for new Arsenal boss Unai Emery who left the club at the end of the season.

Tuchel biggest goal will be to improve the fortunes of the Parisiens in Europe and should expectedly continue their dominance in Ligue 1.

Despite spending so much on the likes of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, the Parc des Princes outfit have failed to make it past the last 16 in the last two years.

Buffon earned 176 international caps, won Serie A 11 times and added other numerous other cup competitions and solo awards but just the Champions League has eluded him.

He was sent off against Real Madrid in his last performance in the competition and he will be suspended for the start of next season's competition.
