Breaking: Court declares Rivers APC congress null and void

A Rivers state high court Holden in Port Harcourt has reportedly declared the ward, local government and the state congresses of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held on the 19th, 20th and 21st of May null and void.

Justice C Nwogu, who gave this ruling on Wednesday, May 30, said that the attitude of the APC holding the same congresses barred by the court on a later date was contempt, stressing that it was targeted at arm-twisting the judiciary.

Legit.ng previously reported that the APC cancelled its Rivers state ward and local government congresses which were conducted on the 5th and 12th of May respectively.

The development was made public in a statement signed by the party’s national chairman, John Odigie Oyegun and the national secretary, Bala Bunu, on Friday, May 18.

Legit.ng, however, notes that the statement was not signed by the party’s national legal adviser, Muiz Banire, who recently criticized the APC leadership.

Banire’s failure to sign the statement reportedly shows cracks in his relationship with Oyegun.

Meanwhile, more facts have emerged in the crisis that engulfed the Rivers state chapter of the APC during the congress.

An eye witness who chose to be anonymous, recently gave an account of what she witnessed in the violence that characterised the party's ward congresses in the state.

According to her, the shoot out witnessed in a Rivers state high court was allegedly masterminded by a combination of thugs supported by Senator Magnus Abe and River state governor, Nyesom Wike.

She stated that pandemonium broke out as soon the armed thugs shouting PDP slogans engaged the police guarding the court in a shoot out that lasted for more than twenty minutes, adding that as soon as the shootings reduced, the convoy of Senator Magnus Abe and that of the presiding judge arrived.
