Breaking: Gunmen abduct 3 female university students from their hostel in Akwa Ibom

A spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Odiko MacDon, has confirmed that three female students of Obong University in Etim Ekpo, Akwa Ibom state, were abducted early Friday, June 1, from their hostel by armed men.

Premium Times reports that MacDon said one of the abducted students was, however, rescued by the police.

The report adds that MacDon, a deputy superintendent of police, said the rescued victim has gunshot wound on her shoulder and has been taken to the hospital for treatment.

“Police is on the trail of the abductors,” MacDon said.

It was learnt that as a result of the abduction, students in the university embarked on a peaceful march within the campus.

They were reportedly addressed by the vice chancellor of the institution, Udoudo Ekanemesang, who appealed for calm.

The Obong University is one of the two private ones in Akwa Ibom state and is reportedly 18 years old and is located in an area mostly affected by cult-related killings and violence.

Legit.ng earlier reported that the Zamfara state police command, on Sunday, May 27, confirmed the death of seven persons in fresh attack by gunmen of Gidan-Labbo village in Gidan-Goga district of Maradun local government area of the state.

The public relations officer of the Command, DSP Muhammad Shehu, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gusau.
