Breaking: Ex-lawmaker Opeyemi Bamidele, one other shot at Ekiti APC secretariat

Reports reaching Legit.ng indicate that governorship aspirant in Ekiti and a member of the seventh House of Representatives, Opeyemi Bamidele, and one other person have been shot.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) said the Ekiti state governorship candidate, Kayode Fayemi, narrowly escaped being killed by an unknown gunman as he was being received by party men at the APC secretariat.

According to Channels TV, the incident which was described as an accidental discharge, occurred on Friday, June 1, during the takeoff campaign of the All Progressives Congress (APC’s) governorship candidate, Kayode Fayemi.

Fayemi was in company of the Ondo state governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, and other top leaders of the party in the state.

The ruling party had organised a reception for him following his resignation from the federal cabinet and in readiness for the governorship campaigns ahead of the July 14 election.

Premium Times reports that Taiwo Olatunbosun, a spokesperson for the APC in the state, said that on getting to the party secretariat, a gunman raised his weapon, aimed at Fayemi, and pulled the trigger, but missed him.

The gunshots were said to have emanated from the gun of an unknown gunman kitted fully in Mopol uniform at the APC Secretariat in Ado-Ekiti, PM News reports.

A source speaking to PM News said: “The man was at the front of the podium and was hit severally by bullets. He was already in comma and has lost so much blood before he was rushed to the hospital.”

In a report by The Punch, Bamidele has been rushed to an unknown hospital for treatment, while the yet-to-be-identified second victim is feared dead.

Legit.ng previously reported that one of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirants in Ekiti state, Opeyemi Bamidele, urged the people of the state to accept the apology rendered by the party’s governorship candidate, Dr Kayode Fayemi, over perceived infractions while he was in office between 2010 and 2014.

The call was made after a meeting with his canvassers in a post-primary consultation at Iyin-Ekiti during which he urged all other aspirants to fully support Fayemi’s candidature, Vanguard reports.

All aspirants were asked to put aside their differences in the interest of the APC and the state. Bamidele said that he was very confident of Fayemi’s capacity to redress what he described as the failures of the PDP administration.
