Not Too Young Too Run law will engender good governance - CSGGG
- President Muhammadu Buhari has been hailed for signing the Not Too Young To Run bill into law
- The president was commended by the Civil Society Groups for Good Governance for assenting to the bill
- They opined that president has laid the template for Nigeria to tow the path of greatness again
The Civil Society Groups for Good Governance (CSGGG) has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for signing into law the Not Too Young To Run bill.
In a press conference held in Abuja on the State of the Nation with the theme: “Making Nigeria Great Again,” the group described the president as a true patriot who is poised to lay the template for Nigeria to tow the path of greatness again.
CSGGG emphasized that the law “will engender a peaceful revolution in orientation and perception of leadership amongst Nigerian youths who are the true resource of the country.”
The group also expressed optimism that the law will “boost political participation and bring about a robust deliberation on national issues in the next political dispensation and further open the political space for more participation by young people who have been deprived this right over the past nineteen years.”

The address signed by the president, Comrade Ogakwu Dominic also commended the National Assembly and state Houses of Assembly for allowing the bill to see the light of day describing it as feat that will outlive them.
Ogakwu listed other achievements of the Buhari administration to include the realization of the value of self, reduce dependence on government by the youths, the upsurge of private businesses and the value for human and social capital investment.
His words: “President Muhammadu Buhari has set the template for Nigerians to hold government accountable as evident by the various financial reforms and the undying will to fight corruption. By implementing the treasury single account, this administration has demonstrated the will to not only fight corruption but to kill it. Government is no longer business as usual as there is value for those who are committed to make this country work.
“It is a globally accepted fact that the true worth of a nation is its human capital and not its oil reserve or natural resource but in Nigeria this point has been missing. As a nation, we have been fixated on oil but for the first time there is a wave of a new rebirth whereby conscientiously, Nigerians are rediscovering that their future is right with them and they must rise up to the occasion and make the difference.
“The current hardship is a wakeup call for self discovery, it is the darkest period before dawn and a time to pull down the conspiracy against our nation. We have witness like never before the rumble of political gladiators and the few who have controlled the fortunes of this country have been thrown into deep darkness and now is the season of the rise of committed patriots to move our country forward.
“It is my firm belief that what Mr. President has done is to raise the bar through his commitment to see this country great again. Today, we have brand new minds in Nigeria who are asking what they can do for their country and the current leadership is providing the tonic of hope by which their dream can be fueled.
“While we are not ignorant of the many challenges that have bedeviled this great country, the insecurity and killings occasioned by the incessant farmers herders clash and cattle rustling, the depletion of vast number of young people including women and children by codeine in the north, the agitations by the secessionist, the rising cost of living and unemployment, we must however resolve to make Nigeria great again through a firm belief and unwavering commitment to build and repair her torn fabrics amplified by corruption, religion and ethnicity.
“This is our golden moment and we the people of Nigeria must seize it and forge ahead, advance our country and build a nation that will reflect our true worth as the largest black nation on mother earth. We must shun the path of the conspirators who have looted this country hard and dry and stand with Nigeria and assist Nigeria succeed.”

Meanwhile, Senate president, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has said that the passage and assent to the Not Too Young To Run bill, will be the first phase in the journey for more youth inclusion in politics.
Saraki made the statement at a meeting with the Not Too Young Run movement comprising of many notable groups in the country.
The Senate president encouraged Nigerian youths to advocate for free and fair elections, stating that the next step in the advocacy process is to ensure that more young people have their Permanent Voter's Cards (PVCs).
