Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo has been beaten by his great rival Lionel Messi as he fell to third position in Forbes' 2018 list of the world's 100 highest-paid athletes.
Barcelona star Lionel Messi narrowly surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo after signing a new contract at the Spanish champions before the end of last La Liga season.
But Lionel Messi himself fell behind retired American world boxing champion Floyd Mayweather who had a significant earnings from last year's fight with Irishman Conor McGregor.
Floyd Mayweather's victory over McGregor made him the world's best paid for the fourth time in seven years with 285 million US dollars (£212.8 million).
Brazil international Neymar occupies fifth position on the list according to UK Mirror thanks to his USD 90 million (£67.2 million) move from Barcelona to Paris-Saint-Germain.
World heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua's USD 39 million (£29.1 million) saw him ranked at 25 position on the list.
