Nigeria Customs Service seizes 51 exotic vehicles in Ogun in 1 month (photos)

- More seizure have been made by the Nigeria Customs Service in Ogun state

- The service seized a brand new Range Rover Velar and 50 other exotic cars

- According to Customs, the Range Rover (velar) 2018/2019 model has accumulated a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N64,249,064.80

The Nigeria Customs Service on Wednesday, June 6, said 51 vehicles - 19 tokunbos and 32 means of conveyance - were seized by officials of its Ogun state command.

A statement by the Customs said the vehicles were seized between May 2 to June 4.

The service also noted that the seizure of these vehicles is in line with core duty of the revenue generation suppression of smuggling and trade facilitation of the Nigeria Customs Service.

A. A Maiwada, the command's spokesperson said the service also generated a total revenue of N437,860,681 within the period under review.

According to Maiwada, the command also seized 5,103 bags of foreign rice (50 kg each), 135 kegs of vegetable oil (25 litres each), 33 bags of sugar (50 kg each), seven bales of secondhand and three bales 36 sacks.

Other items seized include 300 pairs of foots wears, 129 pieces of used tyres, 102 kegs of petrol (PMS) of 25 litres each and a sack of ladies handbags with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N370, 892,666.00.

He added that most spectacular among the seizures is a new brand Range Rover (velar) 2018/2019 model which has a DPV of N64,249,064.80.

Maidawa said: "The said vehicle which happen to be the second seizure of such in this years has a DPV of 64,249,064.80. The Customs Area Comptroller Agbara, M O, noted that the aforemationed achievement not withstanding still call for concerted efforts of the media, traditional rulers and eminent personalities in the fight against smuggling.

"They are expected to be co- vanguard of sansitizing, and discouraging their words that indulge, and perceive smuggling to be a legitimate means of livelihood. The command re-restated that the unprecedented feat was achieved with the cooperation of the relevant security agencies. (Nigeria Army, DSS, NDLEA, NSCDC, among others)."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that some Customs officers at the Tincan seaport prevented attempts by some smugglers to smuggle containers of Tramadol.

Legit.ng gathered that the containers of Tramadol were to be smuggled from India into Nigeria before it was intercepted by the Tincan Island command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).

Tramadol, an opioid analgesic prescribed to treat moderate to moderately severe pain has been listed among controlled drug suspected to being abused by some youths across the country.
