Tragedy averted as Osinbajo’s helicopter reportedly makes forced landing in Abuja

A tragedy was averted on Thursday, June 7, when a helicopter conveying Vice President Yemi Osibanjo from the Nigeria customs command and staff college, Gwagwalada, Abuja, was forced to make an emergency landing due to technical issues few seconds after take-off.

The Nation reports that the near mishap occurred after Osinbajo had attended the graduation ceremony of senior division course 1/2018 participants at the customs college.

The helicopter had earlier conveyed the vice president to the college for the ceremony but second after take off, the white chopper with yellow and blue stripes reportedly could not ascend beyond the trees level before it emitted thick smoke and had to make an emergency landing on the same spot.

After the incident Osinbajo reportedly left the college by road.

Meanwhile, the National Assembly has issued a warning to President Muhammadu Buhari, saying he must be held accountable for the actions of his appointees and must be ready to sanction those that carry out any act that will ridicule or endanger the country and democracy.

This is coming after the National Assembly held a joint session in the chambers of the speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara. Both legislative chambers met behind closed doors to discuss the political tension in the country.

At the end of the session, Senate president Bukola Saraki announced that security agencies must be given marching orders to contain all the sustained killings of Nigerians and protect the lives and properties of Nigerians as this is the primary duty for any responsible government.
