Impeachment: NASS never threatened Buhari - Lai Mohammed gives clarification
- The minister of information and culture, Lai Muhammed, has denied claims that lawmakers in the National Assembly threatened to impeach President Muhammadu Buhari
- Muhammed said that he was not aware of any such threat as carried by so many defectors of the president
- The lawmakers had resolved to invoke their constitutional powers if the president failed to deal with issues like insecurity, rampant killing and persecution of legislators
In reaction to the supposed misconception that the National Assembly moved to impeach President Muhammadu Buhari, the minister of information and culture has said that the House's issuance of a 12-point application meant no threat to the presidency, Daily Trust reports.

Mohammed's clarification came after lawmaker alleged that signatures were being collated for the president's immediate impeachment.
The minister, in his response to questions newsmen at the Ilorin International Airport at the end of the 11th Ramadan lecture in the Oro area of the state, his home town on Thursday, June 7. He said that he was not privy to any such threat by the National Assembly.
Recall that the lawmakers had said that they would put their constitutional powers to work if the president hesitate to respond to issues deliberated upon after a joint session on Tuesday, June 5.

The lawmakers had asked the president tackle issues like insecurity, rampant killing, persecution of the legislators, invasion of the Senate. They also passed a vote of no confidence on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim Idris.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that some Nigerian senators had on Thursday, April 26, called for the impeachment of President Muhammadu Buhari’s for not seeking National Assembly approval before the withdrawal of the $496 million used for the purchase of aircraft from the United States.
Legit.ng gathered that Senator Matthew Uroghide representing Edo state, moved the motion, claiming that President Buhari’s move was a violation of the constitution and thus, he should face the consequences.
