President Buhari congratulates Vice Admiral Akintunde Aduwo on his 80th birthday

President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated the former chief of naval staff and governor of the old Western state, Vice Admiral Akintunde Aduwo, on his 80th birthday.

The president in a letter on Friday, June 8, to the elder statesman, Chief Aduwo, who is the Oloye Obateru of Aye and Oloye Taarelase of Ile-Ife, felicitated with him having attained the age of 80.

The statement issued by presidential aide, Garba Shehu, read in part: "On behalf of my family, the Federal Executive Council and good people of Nigeria, I write to felicitate with you on the occasion of your 80th birthday.

‘‘Our nation is immensely grateful to the Almighty God for giving you the opportunity to see this special day, particularly in reminiscence of your contributions and sacrifices for the country’s development.

“As a nation, we are thankful as we reflect on the many appointments you have held over the years, at home and abroad, with remarkable dedication to duty which still serves as a signpost and inspiration for our youths.

“On this auspicious occasion of your turning into an octogenarian, be assured that the nation still counts on your wise counsel, patriotism and devotion to the service of humanity to move forward.’’

The president prayed that Almighty God will grants Chief Aduwo long life and strength.

Meanwhile, the Senate on Thursday, June 7, rejected June 12, as inauguration day of newly elected government officials.

This is coming after President Muhammadu Buhari announced via his Facebook page that June 12, will be celebrated as the new Democracy Day.

The upper chamber insisted that May 29, remains the day of inauguration of newly elected officers of the country.

However, the deputy Senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, noted that the constitution needs to be amended if June 12 is declared as Democracy day.
