Bandits reportedly kidnap 23 in Birnin-Gwari

- Twenty-three persons have been kidnapped in Kaduna state

- They were kidnapped by armed bandits while travelling along Birnin- Gwari

Twenty-three travellers including a nursing mother and her infant have allegedly been adopted from commercial vehicles by armed bandits while they were travelling through Birnin-Gwari road, Kaduna state on Friday, June 8.

An eye-witness, a commercial driver, Mohammed Kebbi, who witnessed the event said about were intercepted and their occupants kidnapped by the bandits.

Kebi said: “At least five vehicles were intercepted by Kidnappers along Birnin-Gwari-Kaduna road around 11.00am this morning Friday. At least 23 people were kidnapped, including a nursing mother and one other kid.

“The incident occurred at Kwanar-tsauni between Udawa and Labi.

“Though there is improved security along Funtua route which many commercial vehicles ply, we want the government to also provide maximum security to other routes that are haven of Kidnappers."

Legit.ng earlier reported that eighty seven passengers travelling along Birnin-Gwari-Kaduna highways have been reportedly kidnapped by armed bandits operating in the area.

The bandits selected their victims from their look and dressing and herded them into the bush.

The kidnappings were confirmed by the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the area, which cautioned its members from plying the route pending deployment of troop and other security agencies.
