Nigerians mourn legendary musician Ras Kimono who died at the age of 60

A big loss has hit the Nigerian music industry as news of the death of legendary reggae artiste Ras Kimono becomes known. The artiste who recently celebarted his 60th birthday passed away this Sunday, June 10.

Legit.ng had earlier reported that the artiste was supposed to travel to the United States on Saturday, June 9, when he started complained that he wasn't feeling well.

Ras Kimono was rushed to a hospital in Ikeja area of Lagos state. He was reportedly transferred to Lagoon Hospital in Ikoyi where he passed away.

The news of his tragic death was announced by the commissioner for tourism, arts and culture in Lagos state, Steve Ayorinde.

Kimono who was born Ukeleke Elumelu in Delta state released his debut album Under Pressure in 1989. The album was let by his hit single Rum-Bar Stylee.

Before he became a solo artiste, Kimono was in a group known as Jastix along with other legendary reggae stars such as Majek Fashek and Amos McRoy.
