APC, PDP reps disagree on Buhari's alleged plan to frame Obasanjo

- Members of House of Representatives from APC and PDP clashed over Obasanjo's allegation against Buhari

- Obasanjo recently alleged that President Buhari is plotting to jail him

- APC lawmakers alleged that Obasanjo is guilty while their PDP counterparts supported the former president

Members of the House of Representatives from the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC), and the opposition party, Peoples Democratice Party (PDP), have disagreed over the allegation levelled against President Muhammadu Buhari by former president, Olusegun Obasanjo.

Recall that Legit.ng previously reported that Obasanjo recently cried out that President Buhari is plotting to use fake documents to implicate him and lock him up in jail for fraud.

The Punch reports that while APC lawmakers are in support of President Buhari and insisted that the allegation is untrue, their PDP counterparts insited that Obasanjo's allegation should be taken seriously and investigated.

The chief whip of the House and an APC member, Alhassan Ado-Doguwa said: “Indeed, the guilty are always afraid. Obasanjo’s claims are no more than a mere expression of guilt. Nigerians must not forget the huge financial scandals perpetrated under Obasanjo’s administration.

“The $16bn claimed to have been spent on power, the misappropriation involved in the so-called privatisation of government assets and the unprecedented abuse of our foreign reserves in his tenure to mention but a few, cannot be swept under the carpet.

“It is only my hope that the Buhari anti-graft crusade will not be distracted by such a baseless outcry by Chief Obasanjo, trying to divert public attention.

“It’s my candid opinion that nobody is above the law. The government must, therefore, be ready to bring Obasanjo to book by compelling him to provide answers to some of the weighty allegations against him and his government.”

However, a member of the PDP from Kogi state, Karimi Sunday, claimed that Obasanjo has access to priviledge information and if he is accusing the presidency of something, there must be some truth to it.

Sunday said: “The thing is that, could it be a coincidence that people with opposing views to the government’s are expressing these concerns? Recall that the president of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, raised a similar alarm shortly before the police linked him with the Offa robbery suspects.

“Now, it is Obasanjo, a former President, whom we can’t say is given to frivolity or can be presumed to speak without facts.

“It is even showing in the pattern the government is executing its anti-corruption war. All the major persons so far arraigned are the PDP members. Are we saying that there is no corrupt person in the APC? It is a serious issue that the government and especially, the President must address as we approach the 2019 polls."

Another member of the PDP, Igariwey Iduma-Enwo, representing Afikpo North/Afikpo South said it is shameful that Obasanjo, who he claimed was instrumental to Buhari becoming a president, is now being hounded by the same man he helped into governance.

James Faleke, an APC member representing Lagos state, said Obasanjo should have no fears. He said: “Besides, Obasanjo has said that he is not one of the corrupt leaders. If he has no skeletons in his cupboard, it means that he has nothing to fear because he is clean.

“I do know that when Obasanjo was still in power, no one would have written him the letters he wrote Buhari and he would let him be. Yet, Buhari has not replied his letters."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that former vice president, Atiku Abubakar has reacted to the allegation by former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, that the administration of Muhammadu Buhari is plotting to frame him up and lock him in jail for a long time.

Atiku, in a statement released on Friday, June 8, said such actions would only aggravate the already heated polity in the land and urged President Buhari to call the security agencies to order.
