- Senator Shehu Sani has described the leadership of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) as betrayers
- Sani said that top members of the party abandoned MKO Abiola when he needed them most
- He said that such persons will not be forgotten for being instrumental to the cancellation of the June 12 presidential election
Shehu Sani has bitterly decried what he described as betrayal and abandonment from the leadership of the defunct Social Democratic Party (SDP) to MKO Abiola who was the party's presidential candidate in 1993.
Referring to many of the executive members of the SDP as ‘traitors’, Sanni wondered why President Muhammadu Buhari honoured them while conferring the national honour of Grand Commander of Federal Republic (GCFR) on Abiola.
The outspoken senator said: “Many of them abandoned Abiola in his time of needs. Many of them are traitors, who forever will never be forgotten for their roles in the annulment of the Presidential election.”
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com reported that the director-general of the MKO Abiola campaign organisation, Senator Jonathan Zwingina, had revealed that SDP members who served in the government of Abacha all had the permission of Abiola. The Adamawa-born former lawmaker said this on Monday, June 11.
