Newspaper review: At last, FG apologises to MKO Abiola's family, others

Vanguard reports that Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, June 12, tendered apology on behalf of the country to the family of the late Moshood Abiola, the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 Presidential election that was annulled by the then Military Head of State,, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida.

President Buhari who tendered the apology during his remarks on the Special National Honours linvestiture of Chief MKO Abiola with the award of GCFR, Alhaji Baba Gana Kingibe and Chief Gani Faweehinmi with GCON.at the Old Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa Abuja.

This Day reports that former Edo state governor, Adams Oshiomole, has said he would have arrested and prosecuted former President Olusegun Obasanjo if he were President Muhammadu Buhari.

This is coming as the former Edo state governor received more endorsements from the national leader of the party, Bola Tinubu, as well as governors elected on the platform of the party ahead of the national convention of the party.

Oshiomhole, who weighed in over the faceoff between President Buhari and Obasanjo, urged Buhari to investigate and jail the former president, should he be found to have dipped his hands in public treasury.

The Guardian reports that Nigeria as a maritime nation has lost fortunes to the collapse of the Nigerian National Shipping Line (NNSL) about 13 years ago.

The executive governor of Edo state, Godwin Obaseki, disclosed this in Onne, Rivers state, during the official christening of the nation’s latest addition to the Nigerian ‘fleet’, the MV OSANYAMO, built by the STARZS Group and delivered by the Damen Ship Yard.

The Punch reports that national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu, ex-interim national chairman of the APC, Chief Bisi Akande and governors on the party’s platform, have endorsed former Edo state governor, Adams Oshiomhole, for the position of the national chairman of the party.

This followed visits to Oshiomhole’s campaign office located at Aso Drive, Asokoro, Abuja, on Tuesday.

Apart from Tinubu and Akande, some of the governors who were at the facility to meet with Oshiomhole include: Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi), Rotimi Akeredolu SAN (Ondo), Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun), Tanko Al-Makura (Nassarawa) and Abdullahi Ganduje (Kano).

The Nation reports that the police have uncovered an illegal blood bank allegedly operated by a 45-year-old man, Paul Achegbulu, in Bariga, Lagos mainland.

Police commissioner Imohimi Edgal led his men to arrest the suspect in his 18 Kusa Bus Stop, Bariga one-room apartment where he operated form. He was said to have collected blood from children there for sale to some clinics.

It was gathered that the police recovered seven pints of blood from his home.
