Convention: Okorocha reveals proceedings from closed-door meeting held with Buhari, APC governors

Rochas Okorocha, the governor of Imo state, has revealed details on the proceedings of the meeting held between President Muhammadu Buhari and governors across the country elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday, June 12 at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Premium Times reports.

Okorocha, who is the chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF), remarked that it was a tradition for members of the group to meet with the president on issues affecting the party.

The Imo state governor stated that the chairman of APC’s forthcoming national convention, Governor Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa state, gave the president progress report on the convention.

Okorocha said: “We also looked at the way forward because we are coming to the heat of politics , so we just must be prepared for any political issues coming up.”

He went on to say that APC governors are now more united than ever and are ready for the 2019 elections, adding that the governors praised the president for declaring June 12 as Democracy Day as well as honouring late MKO Abiola with the GCFR award.

He said: “We are sure people will be proud of APC’s outcome. We saw this as opening new page on relationships."

He dismissed claims that the party is in crisis, saying that there are only minor disagreement between factions which according to him, is normal for all political parties. Okorocha said: “Even in a family there are disagreements. A party without disagreements is not a party.”

Concerning the political rift in his home state, Okorocha was silent and maintained that there was no congress in which party members in Imo choose another candidate ahead of 2019 elections.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com reported that Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state had been spotted anointing members of a church during service on Sunday, June 4.

Okorocha and his wife, Nneoma Nkechi, were joined at the church service by other state dignitaries. The governor was spotted anointing members of Victory Chapel located at the government house in Owerri, Imo state.
