CCT reacts to report of Buhari appointing Justice Banjoko as new chairman

Unconfirmed report has it that President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Justice Adebukola Banjoko as chairman of Court of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).

Banjoko recently sent two ex-governors including a serving senator to jail.

However, the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) has denied the reports. The Tribunal insists that Justice Danladi Umar remains its chairman.

The head of press and public relations of the tribunal, Malam Ibraheem Alhassan, said Justice Danladi Yakubu Umar is still in his position as chairman.

Independent had previously reported that President Buhari appointed the tough female judge to lead the Tribunal, following her recent sentencing of two ex-governors to jail on corruption charges.

Recall that Legit.ng previously reported that Justice Adebukola Banjoko is rapidly becoming a symbol of fearless and impartial justice in the Nigerian judiciary.

In what can be considered an unprecedentedly fearless and bold move, the tough female judge successfully convicted and sent Jolly Nyame, former governor of Taraba, and Joshua Dariye, former governor of Plateau state to jail.

Nyame was sentenced to 14 years in prison without an option of fine, on May 3; and on Tuesday, June 12, Justice Banjoko delivered another landmark judgement, when she sentenced Joshua Dariye, a former governor of Plateau state, to 14 years in prison.

Nyame was found guilty of 27 out of 41 counts of alleged diversion of public funds while he served as governor of Taraba state.

Dariye was charged for diverting N1.162 billion while he served as governor of the North-central state. He was brought to court on a 23-count charge for the alleged offence by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in 2007.
