50 sarasuka gangsters arrested in Kaduna

- Fifty gangsters, known as Yan Sarasuka or Yan Shara, have been arrested in Kaduna state

Fifty gangsters, known as Yan Sarasuka or Yan Shara, have been arrested in Kaduna after the order by governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai to security agencies to deal with the menace.

This was contained in a statement by Samuel Aruwan, spokesperson to the Kaduna state governor, daily Trust reports.

Aruwan said the suspects will be arraigned before a magistrate’s court after security agencies conclude investigations.

The suspects were arrested in different locations in Kaduna town over last weekend’s clash between gangs at Ungwan Shanu area of Kaduna.

He said after receiving briefings from security agencies on the outrage perpetrated by the urban gangsters, notoriously known as Yan Shara or Sarasuka, the governor visited Abakpa community where he interacted with some members of the community and condemned the criminal actions of the gangsters.

“Security agencies have informed the Governor of the arrest updates on the arrest of over 50 suspects. The governor requested that the police and the Ministry of Justice to ensure prompt investigations and diligent prosecution of whoever is indicted.

“He urged the police to ensure that fleeing suspects do not escape justice, declaring that all government agencies must work to collectively end the menace.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that emerging reports have it that more suspects in connection with the April 5 Offa bank robberies during which nine policemen and 33 persons were killed have been arrested.

They were arrested by the operatives of the Intelligence Response Team led by a deputy commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari.

The additional suspects were apprehended in Kwara, Oyo and Kogi states and were assisting the police to track down other accomplices.

A source, who declined to give the number of the suspects, explained that two AK 47 rifles were also recovered from them.
