Celebration as Donald Trump turns 72, becomes America's oldest first-time president

The United States’ president, Donald Trump, turned 72 on Thursday, June 14, having returned to the White House after his widely publicised trip to Singapore for the historic summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

In 2016, Trump became the oldest person to assume the US presidency (he was 70 then), although Ronald Reagan was 73 when he was re-elected in 1984, The Economic Times reports.

Earlier, Singaporean officials surprised the president with a birthday cake lunch on Monday, June 11, ahead of the historic North Korea summit.

Following allegations Trump has mental issues, the then White House physician Ronny Jackson described his health as "excellent."

Legit.ng reported that Dr Ronny Jackson shared the results of Trump’s first physical at a press conference on Tuesday, January 16.

According to Jackson, President Trump is in excellent physical and mental health as opposed to the reports that he is mentally unstable.

Against the speculations that the president might be suffering from early-stage dementia or have some other mental health issues, Jackson said that Trump got a perfect 30 out of 30 scores on a common dementia screening exam called the Montreal Cognitive Assessment.

When Trump was still a presidential candidate, his then personal doctor Harold Bornstein released a letter on Trump's behalf in December 2015 in which he described the businessman's health in grand hyperbole.

It depicted Trump's blood pressure and laboratory results as "astonishingly excellent," his physical strength and stamina as "extraordinary," and said he would be "the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency."

There were, however, speculations that Trump had personally dictated the letter.
