- The Italian born manager has just one more season on his current contract with the Blues
- Meanwhile, the Stamford Bridge outfit are planning to hire Sarri as Conte's replacement
Chelsea’s plans of hiring a new manager this summer may have suffered a major setback following Real Madrdi’s decision to make Jolen Lopetegui the club’s new boss.
The Blues were expecting to part ways with their current manager Antonio Conte on mutual consent with the hope of him walking straight into a new job.
However, the Stamford Bridge outfit are now left with the option of either sacking the Italian born manager and then pay him a sum of £9 million or allow him see out his contract which expires next summer.
The former Juventus manager, when asked about his future towards the end of last season insisted that he will not quit regardless of what the management decide.
Meanwhile, he has informed his friends that he is prepared to stage a return to the Bridge for pre-season training if no action is taken.
The Blues might probably sack Conte before the start of a new season but are said to be waiting to see if the two parties can mutually part ways.
Former Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri remains the favourite candidate to replace Conte if Abramovich decide to let him go.
Chelsea are said to have also lined up former Paris Saint Germain manager Laurent Blanc as their plan B should their effort to hire Sarri fail.
Though, Napoli have appointed Carlo Ancelotti as their new manager, but Sarri is yet to decide if he will walk away from his contract at the Italian club side, with Italian sources claiming the club are now prepared to let him go for around £3.5m.
