BREAKING: Kidnapped Methodist priest, others regain freedom

- After spending four days in kidnappers' den, a methods priest and two others have regained their freedom

- The priest, Very Reverend Kayode Akande and two other church leaders, were kidnapped on Sunday June 10, but were released on Thursday, June 14

- They were said to have been released after the priest prayed for the kidnappers

A Methodist priest, Very Reverend Kayode Akande and two other church leaders kidnapped by suspected herdsmen in Osun state, have been released by their captors.

The priest alongside the two other church leaders simply identified as Bankole and Omodunbi, were released on Thursday, June 14 by the suspected herdsmen, Punch reports.

Legit.ng notes that one of the clerics in the church confirmed the release of the kidnapped victims.

According to him, they were kidnapped by their captors on Sunday, June 10, but were freed

The cleric said that his colleague and two others, who were kidnapped by the hoodlums since Sunday night were freed by their abductors unhurt.

He said: “The priest and the two others kidnapped by the suspected herdsmen have been released. They were released on Thursday. We ascribe all the glory to God for their release.

“The church did not pay any ransom. Honestly speaking, they were released by God’s intervention and by the intervention of the Bishop who also pleaded and prayed for those kidnappers.

“There was a request for ransom but the bishop pleaded and prayed for them and God intervened. The three persons were released without paying any ransom. It is a miracle.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the Osun state command of the Nigeria Police Force, said it had deployed officers to rescue a Methodist priest and two other persons abducted on the Iwo-Ibadan road on Sunday, June 10, by gunmen suspected to be herdsmen.

Mufutau Ayinde, the deputy commissioner of police in charge of operations, made the disclosure in Osogbo on Monday, June 11, while speaking with newsmen.

He stated that the priest and two others were kidnapped at about 7:10 pm on Sunday, stressing that the matter was reported to the Police division in Iwo.
