Egypt talisman Mohamed Salah has been left on the bench for the Pharoah's World Cup clash with Uruguay.

The 25-year-old has been in a desperate race to prove his fitness after suffering a shoulder injury last month's Champions League final.

And despite taking part in full training this week, the Liverpool star player has not been risked from the start against the South Americans today by Hector Cuper.

Salah thought he would be ruled out of the tournament entirely when after he was bundled to the ground by Sergio Ramos in the early stages of the Champions League final against Real Madrid.

There were initial fears he had broken his collarbone leaving him with no chance of making a recovery in time to play for his country at the Russia 2018 World Cup.

However the former Chelsea attacker has recovered well and declared himself fully fit last week in a major boost to Egypt.

But despite that, coach Hector Cuper has decided to take no chances over his talisman, and left him on the bench for their opening match Group A match in Ekateringburg.
