The use of mobile telephones during the September 22 governorship election in Osun state has been banned by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

This was disclosed by the residential electoral commissioner in the state, Olusegun Agbaje, during a meeting with representatives of political parties in Osogbo, Daily Trust reports.

Legit.ng notes that according to Agbaje, politicians are plotting to manipulate the electoral process, and INEC is taking necessary steps to ensure a free, fair, transparent and credible exercise.

He also claimed that there were moves by politicians to use money to entice and induce voters at the polling centres, adding that INEC would resist such.

He said: “We won’t allow the use of phones at the polling centres; we are aware of a plan by some people to manipulate this process by compelling the voters to snap their ballot papers and present such as receipt for money given to entice and induce them. That’s unacceptable and we won’t allow it."
