Army campaign enables over 2000 IDP’s to return to Borno community for Sallah

- Over 2000 IDP’s have returned back to their Gudunbali, Borno ancestral home for the first time in six years, for Sallah celebrations

- The development was made possible by the Army’s Operation Last Hold campaign; and the IDP’s have been assured of safety and government's assistance in rebuilding their homes and livelihoods

- The Army has also advised all terrorists to surrender, de-radicalize and reintegrate back to their communities; or they would be vanquished and conquered

For the first time in six years, Internally Displaced Persons have been able to return to their ancestral home in Gudunbali, Borno state, for Sallah celebrations.

The development was made public in a statement released by the director of Army public relations, Brig Gen Texas Chukwu, on Sunday, June 17.

Legit.ng notes that the development was made possible by the Army’s campaign, Operation Last Hold.

The statement read: “As Nigerian Army flagged off Operation LAST HOLD in Northern Borno, over 2000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) have returned to their ancestral home, Gudunbali, for the first time in six years.

“The Eid prayers were observed in the headquarters of Guzamalla local government area council. The returnee Internally Displaced Persons were assisted back to their communities by the troops of Operation LAST HOLD.

“Following the achievements recorded by the troops of Operation LAFIYA DOLE, the Nigerian Army consolidated the operations with clearance operation which is Sharan Gwona da Sharan Gida and dominance patrols.

“The Internally Displaced persons were more than delighted to be back in their ancestral home as well as the resuscitation of two boreholes by the chairman of Guzamalla local government area council.

“The returnee Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), drawn from different IDP camps, were assured of their safety and government's assistance in rebuilding their homes and livelihoods.

“Building materials are already being stock piled for distribution, as efforts are intensified to clear and open up more communities in the nine local government area councils of Northern Borno.

“Earlier, the commander, Operation LAST HOLD, Major General Abba Dikko, while welcoming the returnee IDPs, stated that the military will not rest on its oars until all displaced persons are safely returned to their ancestral homes.

“The commander emphasised that all terrorists either surrender, de-radicalize and reintegrate back to their communities; or are vanquished and conquered.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai, said the Nigerian Army is re-strategizing to deal decisively with several security challenges facing the country.

Buratai made the statement in a message to officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army on the occasion of the 2018 Eid El Fitr celebrations.

He said the Army had performed well in the past few months; especially in the various operations assigned to them across the country.
