Suspected thugs allegedly beat up Governor Obaseki's aide

- Maris Igbons, an aid to Governor Godwin Obaseki, claims the chairman of Esan West local government area of Edo state sent thugs to attack her

- She says she became unconscious from the beating and was rushed to the hospital by her sister

An aid to Governor Godwin Obaseki, in Esan West local government area of Edo state, Maris Igbons, has been reportedly attacked by suspected thugs.

Igbons, a mother of four, told journalists from her hospital bed in Benin that the attack occurred on Monday, June 18, when she was in her shop.

She accused the chairman of the council, Patrick Aguinede, of sponsoring thugs to beat her up.

On the day of the attack, the governor’s aide said she was in her shop when suddenly four men came to her to tell her that they had been instructed by the council chairman, Aguinede, to carry out the order given to traders to remove attachments attached to their shops.

She said they had earlier asked her to remove part of the extension of the shop from the walkway which she had already done.

Igbons added that while she was about to remove her show glass from the walk way which they complained about, the four men suddenly dragged it from her hand and smashed it on the ground before raining blows on her.

She said she became unconscious from the beating and was rushed to the hospital by her sister.

Meanwhile, Senator Jonah Jang has insisted that Nigeria’s image can only be redeemed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) judging by the performances of governors on the platform of the party.

The former governor made the statement on Monday, June 18, when commissioning 24 three-bedroom flats for civil servants in Port Harcourt, Leadership reports.

Jang said many projects were being commissioned in PDP controlled states and commended Wike for transforming Rivers state with new projects.
