The position is currently occupied by Senator Osita Izunaso, who is also in the race to retain his seat.

But Nwogu says APC and Nigeria are at a critical stage in their evolution, stressing that to confront the challenges of the moment, “there is an urgent need for the emergence of a new crop of party leaders with the required capacities and backgrounds to weld the party and nation together for overall development.”

He continued: “I have been in the House of Representatives; I am an employer of labour - managing men and materials; I am a quantity surveyor by training, and a responsible family man. My background places me on a solid pedestal to discharge the constitutional responsibilities of national organising secretary of a ruling party.

“I shall bring to the table, my record of impeccable character, integrity, team spirit, humility, effectiveness, and commitment with a view to repositioning our party to sustain its lead as the number one political party in the country."

He promised to consolidate on the gains made by the founding fathers of APC and other national officers, by working to:

1) Fashion strategies or the mobilization of members from the polling unit, ward, local government areas, state and national levels for increased participation in party activities with a view to deepening democracy at all levels in the party.

2) Create opportunities and structures that will ensure all-inclusiveness across board within the party. This will give members a sense of belonging and a reason to remain committed to party interests.

3) Develop grievance-redress mechanisms to assuage the feelings of those who may feel marginalized, neglected, sidelined, or short-changed in the management of the affairs of the party.

6) Work with all the leaders, national officers, elected and appointed political office holders in the party to entrench internal democracy and

7) Assiduously pursue all initiative aimed at uniting party members at all levels and avoiding bickering and intra-party conflicts that can undermine our overall aim as a party.

The former federal lawmaker further said he is determined to offer himself as an instrument for the democratization in the APC and Nigeria as a whole.

“I shall be faithful and loyal to our president, Muhammadu Buhari, our governors, senators, honourable members of the House of Representatives, and all our party members.

“I plead with our delegates to put the interest of our party and the nation first as they vote at the convention.

“I promise to serve as a bridge between the executive and legislature of which I am a member. Our women and the youth will find me a reliable partner at all times. Our founding fathers will get the respects they deserve in the management of party affairs. Their labour will never be neglected or ignored,” he added.
