Schoolgirl suffers dislocation after ‘frog jump’ punishment

- A 13-year-old student in Kwara state is currently suffering from dislocation

- Suliat's condition worsened after her teacher asked her to serve 'frog jump' punishment in school

- The victim's family has called on the general public for assistant following huge hospital bills as a result of the ailment

A student of the Sheikh Abdulkadir Secondary School, Ilorin, Kwara state is currently suffering a dislocation after a 'frog jump' punishment from her teacher.

Suliat Ganiyu, 13, who lived with her aunt since childhood had a dislocation after her teacher allegedly asked her to do a 'frog jump' for coming late to school sometime in February.

Punch reports that Guniyu was on the punishment when her tibia allegedly shifted from the fibula causing a dislocation. Guniyu's condition, however, worsened when the leg became infected.

Speaking on the matter, the victims cousin, Saheed Ganiyu, said the effect of the punishment was discovered by the family after she returned from school.

Saheed said: “When she got home, she complained that she felt serious pains in the leg. When we asked her what happened, she said the teacher asked them to do ‘frog jump’ for coming late to school.

“She went to school the following day, but when she got back, she could not walk. We gave her a pain reliever drug. But when we saw that it did not get better, we took her to a private hospital."

He added that after an X-ray as authorised by the doctor, he took the result of the test to the school to inform the principal and the teacher about what happened.

“The leg refused to heal; it got worse. We were asked to do another X-ray, and the result of the new X-ray showed that the bone had cracked. I reported at the Kwara state ministry of education and the principal was invited. The ministry ordered him to pay out of the hospital bill," Saheed said.

He said while he could not pay the N100,000 bill, the principal of the school did not help as instructed by the education commissioner. He further noted that the school principal eventually brought N20,000 toward the end of the Ramadan, even though the doctor billed them N250,000.

Saheed also appealed to well-meaning Nigerians to help the family as Suliat’s leg had been damaged by the incident.

However, the principal of the school, M.O. Kareem, who confirmed the incident said she promised the family that she was going to pay the bill.

“I have given the family N20,000 and I told them that would be a part payment; I will still give them more and they signed that they collected the money from me,” Kareem said.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that a trainer aircraft of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) was force landed in Kaduna while on a solo mission by a student pilot.

NAF said the incident took place on Monday, March 19, as a result of an airborne emergency that could not enable the pilot fly the aircraft back to the Base.

However, the student pilot, who was the only one on board, suffered minor injuries and is already receiving treatment.
