Investing in a child with sickle cell is a waste – Professor of Genetics Cyril Otoikhian says

- A Nigerian professor of Genetics recently opined that is a waste of resources investing in a child with Sickle Cell

- In commemoration of the Sickle cell awareness day, the professor declared that it's bad to pour wealth on children that will eventually die

- He advised that the best way to prevent Sickle cell is for the opposing blood groups not to reproduce

A Nigerian professor of genetics has recently declared that it's a waste of resources to invest in a child with Sickle cell anemia.

In commemoration of the World Sickle Cell day June 20th, Professor Cyril Otoikhian was invited to speak on the ailment and how it can be managed since there is no cure.

Speaking to TVC when asked how parents with children that have the ailment can invest and manage them, the professor said;

”Investing in a sickle celled child is like loading your money into a sachet and you are in a moving car, you throw the money away. Sickle cell disease is a genetic disorder. I am a professor of genetics and we know right from time even till tomorrow that genetic disorder are not reversible”

The professor added that the disease is a curse, he said; ”This morning I saw a post on Facebook that read ‘Sickle cell is not a curse. It is not a timebomb’. Forget it, Sickle cell is a curse”

Legit.ng had earlier reported that a Nigerian lady on Twitter recently cried out over losing a great guy because both of them have the sickle cell gene AS.

She lamented how annoying it has become living with such genotype. According to the lady identified as nerdy_dami on Twitter, "This genotype ish has made me lose another good guy. Fu*k this s*it, being AS can be so annoying."

It can be pretty hard sometimes for people living with AS. Many have complained of losing someone they love dearly over incompatibility of their genotype.

Though it hurts letting go of people you love, it's better than endangering the lives of children the relationship may beget in future.
