PhD scandal: UNILAG disclaims Osun poly rector’s B.Sc

- The University of Lagos has denied issuing a certificate to the embattled rector of Igbajo Polytechnic, Osun state, Akinola Olaolu

- The principal assistant registrar, communications unit of the university said the embattled rector did not obtain a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics from the institution

- Professor Chibuzo Nwoke, the vice-chancellor of Oduduwa University, Ipetumodu, Ile Ife, Osun state also said Olaolu left the institution due to the questionable credentials

Following the scandal in Igbajo Polytechnic, Osun state, the University of Lagos, Akoka said it does not have any record which it could prove that the embattled rector of Igbajo, Akinola Olaolu was its former student.

Punch reports that the principal assistant registrar, communications unit of the university Taiwo Oloyede said the embattled rector did not obtain a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics from the institution.

Also, professor Chibuzo Nwoke, the vice-chancellor of Oduduwa University, Ipetumodu, Ile Ife, Osun state, where the rector worked in 2012, said Olaolu’s credentials were fraudulent.

Nwoke maintained that Olaolu left the institution due to the questionable credentials.

It was learnt that both Oloyede and Nwoke spoke on Wednesday, June 20 spoke about the matter.

One of those who reacted to the report, Williams Abiodun Ajayi, the legal adviser and secretary to the board of trustees, Oduduwa University, said he knew the rector.

Ajayi said: “Fake result indeed. I knowAkinola Olaolu very well. He does not have any certificate. It is not only his PhD that is fake; even his B.Sc and Msc Economics are fake.

“It was because of this that he left Oduduwa Univesity, Ile Ife. He has only B.Sc in Biology. He should be arrested immediately. If the management of the school is in doubt, they should contact me.”

Although Ajayi had yet to respond to an enquiry on a professional networking platform, LinkedIn, the Oduduwa varsity VC, Nwoke, confirmed that Olaolu worked in the school.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that the University of Ibadan denied issuing Doctor of Philosophy certificate in Economics to the embattled rector of Igbajo Polytechnic, Osun state

This was disclosed by the director of public communications of the institution, Olatunji Oladejo, on Monday June 4.

Olaolu, who came into the school in December 2015 as a deputy rector to the former rector, Tanimowo Oke, reportedly caused the removal of Oke after claiming to have a PhD in Economics. Oke was said to have a master's degree as of then.
