APC national convention: Associate reacts to Nwogu's rumoured anti-party activities

- Honourable Chudi Nwogu has declared his interest in emerging as a national officer of the All Progressives Congress (APC)

- Nwogu, a former member of the House of Representatives, is eyeing the position of the party's national organising secretary

- His aspiration has however caused disaffection among some members of the ruling party

Honourable Chidi Nwogu may emerge as the national organising secretary of the APC in the ruling party's forthcoming national convention.

Nwogu, a former member of the House of Representatives, recently joined the APC in his Nkwerre ward in Imo state.

However, some elements in the party have linked him to some big wigs in the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). His critics also say he does not have a good knowledge of the party and does not to have any experience in party administration.

They say the APC may be creating problems for itself after the convention with the identity of some persons who are set to emerge as its officials in the convention.

Some are also of the view that could it be possible that PDP has infiltrated the APC or that some critical positions in the party have been hijacked.

Responding to the allegations, Alhaji Yakubu Das, an APC delegate from Bauchi state, said the allegations are “a wicked blackmail that is destined to fail.”

In a statement sent to Legit.ng, Das said Nwogu's opponents fabricated the allegation to stop him from emerging the next national organising Secretary of the APC. He said those peddling the allegation should know that Nwogu was independent minded and could never work for somebody outside the APC.

He advised APC leaders to disregard the allegation and treat those who are peddling it as enemies who want to destroy an innocent man.

Das further stated that Nwogu would serve as a unifying force in the APC because of his pedigree, adding that the former lawmaker was the major financier of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in his local government area in 2011.

Meanwhile, a member of the publicity sub-committee of the APC convention organising committee, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has said there will be no ‘unity list,’ as speculated in several media reports.

Dabiri-Erewa who spoke to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, June 19, after a brief meeting between APC governors and the sub-committee at the convention secretariat, however, said there was room for affirmation and consensus.
