After being convicted by Lagos high court, Joseph Nwobike loses SAN title

- Following his conviction by a Lagos high court over perversion of justice, Joseph Nwobike has been stripped of the title of senior advocate of Nigeria

- The Legal Practitioner's Privileges Committee took the decision pending the outcome of investigations on the allegation

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Joseph Nwobike, has been suspended by the Legal Practitioner's Privileges Committee (LPPC).

Punch reports that the lawyer was suspended during a meeting of the committee on Thursday, June 21.

Legit.ng gathers that according to the statement issued by the secretary to the LPPC, Hadizatu Mustapha, Nwobike was suspended following his conviction by a Lagos high court for the offence of perverting justice.

The committee said that the lawyer has been relinquished of all privileges tied to the rank of a SAN, pending the outcome of investigations on the allegation.

The statement read: “This is to notify the general public that the legal practitioner’s privileges committee in its 132nd plenary session which was held today, June 21 has suspended Joseph Nwobike Esq. from the use of the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (and all other privileges attached to the rank) in accordance with the provisions of paragraph 25 (2) of the legal Practioners’ Privileges committee guidelines.

“This is sequence to his conviction by the Lagos state high court of justice for perversion of justice in charge No. LD/2516C/2016-FRN V. Dr. Joseph Nwobike SAN and pending the investigation of the sub committee set up by the chairman of the Legal Practitioner’s Privileges Committee, the right honourable chief justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Samuel Nkanu Onnoghen."

Recall that Legit.ng previously reported that a senior Nigerian lawyer, Joseph Nwobike, was on Monday, April 30, convicted on several counts of attempting to pervert justice.

Nwobike, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), was convicted by the Ikeja division of the Lagos high court.

Justice Raliat Adebiyi found the lawyer guilty on offences of offering gratification to a judicial officer and making false declaration to an officer of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
