Japan force Senegal to a 2-2 draw in second Group H game in Russia

- Senegal were on Sunday, June 24, forced to a 2-2 draw by Japan in a tough World Cup game

- These two countries now have four points each, but Japan stay top of the table

- A draw for both of them in their last Group games will send them to the next round

Senegal who are among the African representatives at the 2018 World Cup in Russia were on Sunday, June 24, forced to a 2-2 draw by Japan in their second Group H game.

This result means that Senegal will now have to wait till their last Group game before for them to know if they will qualify for the round of 16 which a draw should be enough for them.

It was a tough game for Senegal as their opponents Japan fought from the start to the end of the match which they had the chance to win.

Liverpool striker Sadio Mane scored the first goal for Senegal in the 11th minute after a poor clearance from Japanese goalie Eiji Kawashima.

Takashi Inui restored parity for Japan in the 34th minute after being superbly set up by Yuto Nagatomo.

The Africans took the lead again in the 71st minute when Mbaye Niang gave Moussa Wague a glorious pass for him score leaving Japan goalkeeper Eiji Kawashima helpless.

But seven minutes later, Japan came back into the game when Keisuke Honda scored a brilliant goal after gaining an assist from Takashi Inui for the match to end 2-2.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Senegal on Tuesday, June 19, became the first African side to record a win at the 2018 FIFA World Cup as they defeated Poland 2-1 in their first game in Group H in Russia.

Thiago Cionek scored an own goal in the 38th minute to give Senegal the lead before Torino striker Mbaye Niang netted the second goal for Senegal in the 60th minute for them to record a 2-1 win as Grzegorz Krychowiak's goal at the death was not enough for Poland.
