Alhaji Mai Mala Buni, the national secretary of All Progressives Congress (APC), has said that the recently installed leadership has powered the party for victory ahead of 2019 general elections.
Buni who made this comment on Monday, June 25 in an interview with newsmen, said that the new leadership provides a new opportunity for dialogue and renewal of commitment to the party, Vanguard reports.
Buni said: “The speeches delivered by the Party chairman Adams Oshiomole, President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Senate President Bukola Saraki, Speaker Yakubu Dogara and Asiwaju Bola Tinubu at the convention also provides a new prosperous page for the party.”
“The enthusiasm, confidence and commitment demonstrated by the party from the six geo-political zones were also indicative of its success towards 2019 and beyond.”
The party's secretary also said that the party will extend hands of fellowship to all aggrieved members in the spirit of unity and peaceful dialogue for the party.
Buni said that the APC would employ the negotiating skill of its new leader in resolving pending issues and reconciling rival factions in the party.
He said: “As an indisputable labour leader and astute administrator, the chairman will bring his wealth of experience to bear for the new leadership to settle all differences within the party. We are all optimistic that this leadership will enjoy support from our members in the executive and the legislative arms of government for us to consolidate the strength and fortunes of the party.”
Buni urged stakeholders and party members to support and cooperate with the new leadership to build a vibrant APC. He referred to the convention as a memorable success, adding, “it was a collective success, we all emerged victorious, there were no losers in this convention.
“Every member will be carried along, we will listen to advises and opinions, including constructive criticisms that are geared towards building a strong and united party.”
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com reported that politicians and some state delegates had started trooping into the party’s secretariat since Friday, June 22, giving petty traders opportunity to take advantage of the crowd to display their wares: souvenirs, ranging from branded key holders to hats, face caps and T-shirts.
The tenure of the John Odigie Oyegun-led 21-member National Working Committee (NWC) of the party expires on Monday, June 25, with 17 of them seeking re-election.
Former governor of Edo state, Adams Oshiomhole, remains unopposed for the National Chairmanship position as Clement Ebri, a former governor of Cross River, had withdrawn from the race just like two other contestants earlier did.
