Former Russian international Roman Shirokov has revealed he believes Chelsea are the favourites to secure the signature Aleksandr Golovin, according to a report on Sport Witness.

The CSKA Moscow attacker has been in sensational form so far at the World Cup, helping Russia to qualify for the first knockout round by scoring once and providing two assists so far.

Serie A champions Juventus were keeping a close eye on his situation before the tournament, but after his brilliant performances during the group stage, many other teams are keen to sign him, including Chelsea.

Shirokov who was Golovin's former teammate at CSKA Moscow seems to have a good relationship with the 22-year-old as he revealed to Gazzetta dello Sport.

"I know there’s been contact between the player and Juventus, but we’ll have to see what CSKA think of it. There’s no deadline for Golovin, and the CSKA president knows how to manage the market, both for arrivals and departures.

"With this World Cup, Golovin’s value is increasing, and there could be a real auction for him. In this case, I see the English teams as favourites, especially Chelsea."

Neither Chelsea nor Juventus have made a formal approach about signing Golovin as the Russian side will getting more bids from top clubs after the World Cup.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had earlier reported Aleksandr Golovin inspired Russia in their 5-0 thumping of Saudi Arabia on opening day of the tournament.

Yuriz Ganzinkiy opened the floodgates as substitute Denis Cheryshev added the second before half time.

Another substitute, Artem Dzyuba made it 3-0 while Cheryshev completed his brace to make it 4-0.

Then, a 90th minute free kick from Golovin sealed a famous victory for the hosts as it ended 5-0.
