- The lawmaker, Omosede Igbinedion, says it is time to declare a nationwide state of emergency because Nigeria is under attack
- Mourning with the families of the victims, Igbinedion condemned the killings across the country
Following the killings of over 100 people in Plateau state, the lawmaker representing Ovia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Omosede Igbinedion, has urged the federal government to declare killer herdsmen as terrorists.
The Independent reports that Igbinedion stated that the killings suggest that Nigeria is under attack.
NAIJ.com notes that she said: “It is time to declare a nationwide state of emergency. Nigeria is under attack; democracy is under attack. I join families across Nigeria to mourn the loss of their loved ones in the hands of these gruesome individuals who are getting away without being labelled as a terrorist organisation.
“I made mention on the floor of the House about a month ago that these people should be declared as terrorists. We should not look at each situation in isolation, devoid of religion, ethnicity, locality or politically. The killings that are being perpetrated are against Nigerians and our fellow human beings.
“We as a nation have become so insensitive to the plight of our brothers and sisters, most hardly moved by these deaths, but simply reading it, like it’s the norm and a regular occurrence that we have become numb too.”
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), through its president, Comrade Ayuba, described the recent killings in Plateau state as senseless and barbaric.
Ayuba said that such an ugly incident, if not curbed, would break the bond of brotherhood and unity in the country.
