Lagos police nab 2 fake officers extorting money from public

- Lagos state police have arrested two persons who hid under the pretext of being officers to extort money from people

- The suspects were arrested wearing black T-shirts with police crest and logo and black berets with police insignia on Wednesday, June 20

- The suspects said they had been in the business for 15 years and were trained for six months by their alleged leader

Two people who hid under the pretext of being officers of the Nigeria police wearing black T-shirts with police crest and logo and black berets with police insignia to extort money from the public have been arrested in Lagos state, Premium Times.

NAIJ.com gathered Jumoke Mutairu, 45, and Uzoma Johnson, 29, were arrested on Wednesday, June 20, at Alakara area of the state.

The Lagos police commissioner, Imohimi Edgal, said the police are still searching for the alleged leader of the group who is currently at large.

According to the police, the suspects upon interrogation said they had been in the business for 15 years and were trained for six months by their alleged leader and founder of Chosen Ministry Church, identified as Johnson O. Oni.

Mutairu when paraded before journalists on Wednesday, June 27, said she did not claim to be a police officer but a security agent in order to create awareness for people on issues relating to crime.

The 45-year-old said the uniform was provided for them by Oni, who employed them, adding that she had been doing the job for 15 years.

When asked about her salary, she said: “We don’t collect salary, we only get commission on the materials we sell. We sell an outline which goes for ₦1,200 and my commission is ₦300 on each one.”

The second suspect said he had only worked with the group for three weeks and that they go around in their uniforms as security personnel creating security-alert and selling their “outline.”

In a previous report by NAIJ.com, operatives of the Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad (FSARS) in Rivers state arrested a six man gang of suspected kidnappers and armed robbers operating with Police coloured Ford ranger jeep and Police accouterments.

According to reports, the suspects were identified as Tony Raphael, Ifeanyi Okoye, Chigozie Onuigbo, Emeka Nwaiwu, Clark Sunday and Chinedu Isia.

It was gathered that the individuals were said to rob unsuspecting victims, while dressed in Police attire.
