2019: Coalition of 36 political parties set to battle APC government

- Thirty six parties are slated to battle the ruling APC in 2019 general election

- The parties have merged under the platform of the Coalition of Concerned Political Parties (CCPP)

- The coalition also enjoined other members including the aggrieved members of the APC to join them

In preparation for the forthcoming 2019 general election, scores of parties are said to be battle ready to oust the present ruling party out of power.

Tribune reports that a coalition of 36 political parties on Wednesday, July 4, said that it had set up a steering committee saddled with the responsibility of coming out with a blueprint on the solutions to the nation’s problems.

The national chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Olu Falae, while meeting with representatives of the chairmen of the parties of the Coalition under the umbrella of the Coalition of Concerned Political Parties (CCPP) said, the merging of coalition is aimed at solving Nigeria's complex problem.

Falae said members of coalition have been having series of meeting since February for the progress and the unity of Nigeria.

He said: “We have reached the stage of putting up a steering committee to formulate a blueprint for the nation’s problems ahead of the the 2019 general elections, you don’t rule out anything under the situation we are in the country now, we may later form an alliance or a coalition to fight our common course of restoting of the nation lost glory.”

Speaking on the defection of members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to different other parties, Falae said the crisis within the ruling party was evidence that the party had lost it.

He further urged aggrieved members of the APC especially those at the National Assembly, to join hands with the SDP in moving the nation forward.

“It means the ruling party has lost it. Many of their leaders in the legislature are leaving them. We hope they will join hands with us in looking for survival programme to move Nigeria forward," he said.

He also noted that the coalition was still in discussion with various groups and individuals with the same aspiration for the unity of the country.

“Many people are talking with us. In politics, won’t you talk to everybody? We are talking to anybody and everybody. We are searching for a solution to the complex problems of our nation. In that search, we cannot ignore anybody or anyone.

“We are 36 in number and we have been consulting with one another since February this year. We are very concerned about the situation in Nigeria politically, economically, socially and in the area of security. We have identified relevant solutions to the problem of our nation and to that effect, we are going to set up a committee to work on a common blueprint for the survival, growth, progress and unity of the nation," Falae added.

Also speaking, the chairman of the coalition, Breetfort Onwubuya, said there are strategies in place to rescue Nigeria from possible collapse.

Onwubuya who is also the national chairman of Justice Party said: “We are searching for the ‎solutions to the complicated problem od the Country, we were 40 registered political parties when we started but as of today, we are now 36 and we are very committed to the unity and progress of this country.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that leaders of the new faction of the All Progressives Congress Party, Reformed-APC were announced. The leaders announcement followed the emergence of the new party on Wednesday, July 4.

The members who named the party the Reformed APC while addressing a press conference in Abuja announced Buba Galadima - an ally of President Muhammadu Buhari as its chairman.

Also, Kassim Afegbua, a spokesperson to a former military head of state, Ibrahim Babangida was announced as the R-APC's national publicity secretary.
